Root Canal Treatment in Turkey Endodontics · saving a tooth instead of removing it

Root canal treatment is used when the nerve-and-blood tissue inside a tooth (the pulp) becomes inflamed or damaged. By cleaning this tissue and filling the canals, it lets the tooth be kept in place instead of extracted. It relieves pain and brings the infection under control. Depending on the tooth, it is completed in one or a few visits.

The right approach for you is decided by an in-person examination and X-ray — no plan or price is confirmed before that.

What is it

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is the process of cleaning the infected or damaged nerve-and-blood tissue inside the tooth, shaping and disinfecting the canal spaces, and filling them with a biocompatible material. This prevents the infection from spreading to the surrounding tissues and keeps the natural tooth in the mouth.

In long-term clinical studies, root-canal-treated teeth show an average survival of about 87% at eight years and beyond (systematic review and meta-analysis, International Endodontic Journal, 2024). The outcome varies from person to person depending on the remaining tooth structure, the quality of the restoration placed over it and oral hygiene.

In conservative dentistry, the first choice is always to save the tooth.

A natural tooth performs a function that no denture or implant can reproduce exactly. Keeping a tooth that can be saved is usually a more conservative path than extracting it and planning new treatment in its place. That is the foundation of our approach.

When it's needed

When is root canal treatment needed?

The points below are general guidance; the decision is confirmed only by an examination and X-ray.

Common signs
  • Deep, advanced decay
  • Long-lasting or spontaneous toothache
  • Pain that wakes you at night
  • Constant pain that painkillers do not relieve
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Nerve damage after trauma
  • Signs of infection around the tooth root
How the decision is made
  • Symptoms alone do not make a diagnosis
  • The condition of the tooth is assessed by clinical examination
  • An X-ray is needed to see the root and surrounding tissue
  • For some teeth a different treatment plan may be appropriate
Your options

Root canal treatment or extraction?

Both can be a solution; the real difference is whether the natural tooth is preserved.

Feature the tooth-saving option Root Canal Treatment Tooth Extraction

Our approach
In conservative dentistry the first choice is always to save the tooth; extraction is the last option, for teeth that cannot be saved.

If a lot of tooth structure is lost during treatment, the tooth can be strengthened against fracture with a restoration — a filling or a crown. When a tooth is extracted, restoring its chewing function usually requires an implant, which means a more extensive treatment overall. Sound planning therefore starts with keeping a tooth that can be saved. For the solutions used when a tooth cannot be kept, see Dental Implants.

The process

How it works — in Antalya and back home

Which step happens where, so you know before you travel. Depending on the tooth, the treatment itself is completed in one or a few appointments.

Before you travel
1

Remote assessment

Share photos of the tooth, how it feels and any X-rays you already have. We give an initial, honest view of whether the tooth is likely to be savable.

2

Plan & expectations

We agree what is realistic — no plan is confirmed without an in-person examination and X-ray.

In Antalya
3

Examination

An in-person clinical examination and radiographic (X-ray) assessment confirm the condition of the tooth and the final plan.

4

Cleaning

Under local anaesthetic, the infected or damaged pulp tissue is removed.

5

Shaping & disinfection

The canals are shaped and disinfected.

6

Root filling

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material.

7

Restoration

If needed, the tooth is strengthened with a filling or crown and returned to function.

8

Remote follow-up

You can send photos and tell us how the tooth feels, and we review and advise. Periodic check-ups with a local dentist help protect the tooth — see Aftercare below.

Recovery & aftercare

Recovery, and what happens when you're home

Mild sensitivity for a few days after treatment is possible and usually passes quickly. With a correctly performed root canal, the tooth can stay in the mouth for many years. The bigger question most international patients ask is honest aftercare.

First days

For a few days after treatment you may feel mild sensitivity; following your dentist's advice supports healing.

Strengthening

If a lot of tooth structure was lost, the tooth may be strengthened with a crown to protect it against fracture.

Follow-up & check-ups

After you fly home we stay in contact — you can send photos and how the tooth feels, and we review and advise. Periodic check-ups and good oral care help protect the tooth's lifespan.

"If something needs attention once I'm back home, who deals with it?"

We answer this the way we would want it answered. You leave with a written record of exactly what was done to the tooth — so any dentist, anywhere, knows the treatment — and a remote follow-up route to us. What we will not do is promise a named partner dentist in your country: we will not claim a network we do not have.

About case images

Results are individual and vary from person to person. We publish case images only with each patient's explicit written consent and under the advertising rules of your home country — with no filters or editing. That is why you will not find a stock gallery here: we would rather show you real, relevant examples on request than a set of anonymous images.

Individual results vary. As with any surgical or interventional procedure, outcomes differ from person to person. Any images are shared only where the patient has given explicit written consent and the legal conditions of the target country are met.

FAQ

Common questions

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so most people feel little or nothing during it; in fact, the purpose of a root canal is to relieve the pain that is already there. For a few days afterwards, mild sensitivity is possible.
Depending on the condition of the tooth and the degree of infection, treatment can be completed in a single visit or over a few visits. Your dentist decides the timing after an examination and X-ray.
In most cases keeping the natural tooth is the better option, because once a tooth is extracted an implant or denture is usually needed to restore chewing function. If the tooth can be saved, root canal treatment is the priority; extraction is considered for teeth that cannot be saved.
